Saharawi official: A new page opens in Sahrawi struggle for independence
Dakar (Senegal) - Arab :aghreb independent press service - A Saharawi official underscored Monday in Dakar that a "new page" was open in the struggle of Western Sahara people for independence, adding that the cause was gaining a growing support worldwide as well as inside Morocco, even if "freedom of expression over the issue was always muzzled" in the country.
"Mobilization is much greater today in support of Saharawi people. There are also Moroccan organizations that back Saharawi people's right to independence, and opposition members and famous journalists are expressing positions supporting the right to self-determination," Bachir Segheir, adviser at the presidency of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
spoke on the sidelines of the World Social Forum, opened Sunday in the Senegalese capital., Bachir Sghier, said “ the march of the Saharawi people for independence deliberately walking despite Morocco counter our goal of independence, but it will abandon under international pressure and recognize the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination,”
He indicated that the Moroccan militants participating in the Forum of Dakar “greeted the Saharawi delegation and its resistance in occupied territories” he said, denouncing “attempts of Moroccan authorities to prevent any Moroccans to speak about independence of Western Sahara”
He explained that important category of Moroccan society has condemned “repression against Saharawi civilian population and use of force by Moroccan security forces during dismantling of Gdiem Izik camp in occupied Laayoune,”
He reminded that the Saharawi cause was gaining a growing support worldwide especially in Spain, expressing satisfaction on “growing solidarity with the Saharawi people in France.”
“There are many French associations supporting our struggle and this is positive that these associations have a big influence on the public opinion in Morocco"
