Polisario Front and Morocco to meet on negotiation table on June 5 to 7 in Manhasset

New York - MAP - The United Nations Spokesman, Mr. Martin Nesirky, announced Thursday that the seventh round of preliminary negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco “will be held from June 5 to 7 in Manhasset, a suburb of New York.”

The UN spokesman asserted that the informal talk, to be held at the invitation of the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, will be attended by Polisario Front and Morocco, in addition to Algeria and Mauritania as observer countries.

The informal talks, which started August 2009 in Austria, will prepare the ground for the fifth round of direct negotiations.

Security Council requested in its resolution 1871 from both parties to the conflict, Polisario Front and Morocco, to continue negotiations under the auspices of the UN Secretary General "without preconditions and in good faith" in order to reach "a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution," which would lead to the self-determination for the Saharawi people.
