26th Carthage Film Festival: Six Algerian films vying for Golden Tanit

ALGIERS-Six Algerian films are vying for the Golden Tanit as part of the official competition of the 26th edition of the Carthage Film Festival (JCC), scheduled from November 21 to 28, 2015, during which 300 films from 58 countries will be screened, the Tunisian press said Tuesday.

Algerian films "Les puits" (The Well) directed by Lotfi Bouchouchi and "Madame courage" (Lady courage) of Merzak Alouache are vying for the Golden Tanit in the category of feature films, will "Babor Casanova" directed by Karim Sayad and "Lmuja" OF Omar Belkacemi are scheduled the in short films category. "Contre-pouvoirs" (counter-powers) directed by Malek Bensmail and "Rassi Fi round-point" of Hassen Ferhani in the category of documentary films.

The jury of the official competition (long and short films) is chaired by Moroccan Noureddine Sail while the documentaries category is chaired by Daniele Incalcaterra (Italy-Argentina).

This edition will be marked by the FIPRESCI award (International Federation of Film Critics) and the prize of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) for the best technician (decor).

The 26th edition will also pay tribute to several cultural figures that died recently, including Algerian filmmaker and novelist Essia Jebbar, Portuguese filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira and Egyptian actors Faten Hamama and Marien Fakhreddin.
