Syrian Forces Push Backs Kurdish Forces in Central Hasakah
The Kurdish police (Asayish), backed by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), launched a massive attack against the government-backed “National Defense Forces” (NDF) in Hasakah City on Sunday, resulting in a day-long battle for control of several districts inside the provincial capital.
Asayish forces began the day by storming the NDF’s positions at the Red Villas, Guweiran District, Al-Askari District, and eastern Nashwa neighborhoods; this resulted in a series of back-and-forth battles for control of these areas.
Initially, the Asayish forces seized the Faculty of Economics building in southern Hasakah; however, they eventually retreated from the area after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) shelled their positions from the Kawkab Mountains.
The Syrian Air Force would also assist the NDF in pushing back the Asayish Forces, launching over 30 airstrikes in the last 24 hours, while their ground units attempt to repel all attacks on government areas.
However, on early Monday morning, all fighting has subsided inside Hasakah City, despite the occasional sound of mortar shells from a distance.
