Sahrawi President calls on UN to take “firm, urgent measures” to end Moroccan escalation

Secretary General of the Polisario Front and President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) Ibrahim Ghali called on Tuesday, in Boumerdes, the United Nations Security Council to take “firm and urgent” measures to put an end to the Moroccan escalation in the last African colony.

Speaking at the opening of the 7th edition of the Summer University of the executives of the Polisario Front and SADR, the Sahrawi President underlined that the “Security Council must urgently take concrete and firm measures to put an end to the Moroccan attitude which constitutes a serious violation of the charter of the United Nations, a shameless interference in its prerogatives and a threat for the international peace and stability.”

“In the face of the intransigence and escalation of the Moroccan occupier which is ignominiously supported by France and the international sides known for their colonial past, the United Nations is called to fully assume its responsibilities in the completion of the decolonization process in Western Sahara, Africa’s last colony,” he said.

In this regard, he urged UN to “take the necessary measures and to impose sanctions on the occupation State to bring it to conform to the international legality and to fix the date of the organization of a self-determination referendum of the Sahrawi people.”
