17th NAM Summit to open Saturday in Venezuela

The works of the 17th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) will be held on 17 and 18 September in Margarita Island, northeast of Venezuela, in presence of leaders and representatives of 120 Member States.
Algeria will be represented at the NAM Summit by Speaker of the People's National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa and Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra, who is leading the Algerian delegation to the ministerial segment of the NAM Movement.
Held under the theme "United on the Path for Peace," the NAM Summit is taking place in a context marked by many political and economic challenges for the Movement, like the exacerbation of conflicts and tensions, as well as the growing economic difficulties facing the NAM member states.
The participants will address several issues, including "the New International Economic Order" and "the New Information Order" as well as "global security and human rights."
The Summit will be also an opportunity to strengthen the Movement's positions on the major international topical issues ahead of the 71st session of the United Nation General Assembly.
