American Ambassador John Bolton decries Lack of progress on Western Sahara referendum

Sahara Press Service- Washington DC– The former US ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, decried this Saturday the lack of progress on the referendum in Western Sahara.

The US famous diplomat was talking Friday before a forum organized in the US Congress by the Defense Forum Foundation for Congressional staff members to discuss current national security issues affecting the United States.

" It mystifies me that we have not been able to conduct a referendum in the Western Sahara after all these years of efforts, to allow in a true democratic fashion, the people of the Western Sahara, to express their views on what they want for the future of their country,” Bolton said.

“It's a great tragedy and I hope not a lost opportunity in the region to show what legitimate democratic institutes can do." He added.

It is note worthy that John Bolton worked with former UN Special Envoy on Western Sahara, James Baker, and worked as US ambassador to the Security Council
