Western Sahara human rights activist exposes Moroccan abuses of Saharawis rights to Australian public opinion

Canberra (Australia) - MAP - The Saharawi human rights activist, Aicha Dahane, concluded Sunday her three-week speaking tour in Australia, where she visited cities of Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Perth to address human rights situation in the occupied Western Sahara to the public opinion, according to the Polisario Front Representation in Australia.

During her visit to Australia, Aicha held meetings with NGOs, trade unions, human rights organizations and academics. She also met member of the Australian Federal Parliament, Melissa Parke, and Councilor at the city of Fremantle, Wainwright, Member of the House of Representatives in the Federal Parliament and member of the Senate Scott Ludlam, Melissa Parke, and representatives of Unions WA ( state's peak union body),

She spoke about human rights in Western Sahara during a Seminar organized by the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law under the title “Western Sahara: Living Dangerously Under Moroccan Occupation” May 10, 2011 in Melbourne.

She was welcomed on May 11, 2011 during a reception hosted in Canberra by MP at Parliament, Ms. Janelle Saffin, in the presence of members of Parliament, Ambassadors from the Diplomatic Corp accredited to Australia and members of the Australia Western Sahara Association.

She also gave presentation during a talk organized by the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at University of Sydney under the title “Human Rights in Western Sahara, Africa’s last colony.”

Moreover, the Saharawi activist took part in a public meeting held in Sydney on 13 May under the title “North Africa protests: crises but no road map, analysis of recent events and implications for Africa’s last colony.”
Aicha has been invited to Australia by the Australia Western Sahara Association (AWSA) with the support of Apheda Union Aid Abroad and unions in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.
