Landmines: Maputo Conference approves two reports submitted by SADR

GENEVA-The Maputo Conference on mine ban approved the reports of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) on the prohibition of the use, stockpiling, production and transfer of landmines, Sahrawi news agency (SPS) reported Tuesday.

Referring to a statement from the office of the Polisario Front in Geneva, SPS said reports "were welcomed by the representative of Belgium, President of the contact group at the 3rd Conference of States members of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, to be held in Maputo from 23 to 27 June.

At the Maputo Conference, the International Network for Landmines Ban, which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997, also welcomed the initiative of the SADR, saying it shows the accession of the Saharawi Republic to the objectives of the Treaty.

SADR submitted two reports in accordance with Article 7 of the Convention on the Prohibition of Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Antipersonnel Mines and Their Destruction (Ottawa Convention of 1997) and the Convention on the cluster munitions in 2008.
