Permanent Office reiterates readiness of Sahrawi Republic to negotiate with Kingdom of Morocco as two members of African Union
(SPS) - The Permanent Office of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front has renewed the readiness of the Sahrawi Republic to negotiate with the Kingdom of Morocco as two members of the African Union in order to end the Moroccan occupation of parts of the Sahrawi territory in accordance with its charter and resolutions and that of the United Nations.
In a statement issued on Sunday, following its meeting under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, the Permanent Office noted the meetings held by Mr. Horst Koehler, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, with the representatives of the observer countries, Algeria and Mauritania, following his meeting with the Saharawi delegation.
It condemned the Moroccan crackdown and siege in the occupied territories, southern Morocco and university sites, hailing the spirit of patriotism, willpower and defiance showed by the activists of the independence uprising.
It also called on the United Nations to intervene to release the political prisoners of Gdeim Izik group, students group, and all Saharawi political prisoners in the Moroccan prisons, and end the policy of prolonging their suffering, either by postponing the mock trials or causing difficult health situation for them.
The statement called for an end to systematic expulsions by the Moroccan occupying authorities carried out against independent international observers in an open attempt to hide their gross violations of human rights.
It reiterated that any disregard of the decision of the European Court of Justice and the requirements of European law, international law and international humanitarian law by the European Union, therefore the signing of agreements with the Kingdom of Morocco affecting the lands and territorial waters of Western Sahara, without the consent of the Saharawi people through its legitimate and sole representative of the Polisario Front, would be an illegal and immoral exercise, not only at the expense of the Sahrawi people but at the expense of the European peoples and the values and principles on which the Union was founded.
