Danish “United Nations” association organizes conference on Western Sahara conflict


Copenhagen- The Danish United Nations Association (UNA) organized Tuesday a conference on Western Sahara titled, how to create peace in Western Sahara, according to sources close to the Polisario Front Representation in Denmark

The Danish General Major Mr. Kurt Mosgaard, former chief of MINURSO in Western Sahara, attended the conference and gave presentation on the conflict in Western Sahara, the work of MINURSO, the latest rounds of the negotiations between POLISARIO and Morocco under UN auspices and the UN confidence building measures.

Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, the acting POLISARIO Representative to the European Union, who also attended the conference expressed, from his part, his appreciation for the stand of the Government of Denmark against the prolonging of the illegal EU-Morocco Fisheries agreement.

He gave a detailed presentation of the historical background and the actual situation in Western Sahara as an issue of decolonization registered in United Nations since the 1960s, underlining that the only viable, peaceful and lasting solution for the conflict in Western Sahara is the respect of the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination through free and transparent referendum under the UN supervision.

The Polisario Front delegation which took part in the conference, made contacts with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Political parties and NGOs to brief them about the latest developments related to the issue of Western Sahara.

The Polisario Front delegation comprised Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, the acting POLISARIO Representative to the European Union, and Mr. Abba Malainin, POLISARIO Representative in Denmark, it should be recalled.
